Vanderbilt Road/Cedarcliff Road All-Way Stop Implementation

The Town is implementing a traffic change at the intersection of Cedarcliff and Vanderbilt Roads. On Monday, July 29, 2019, this intersection will change to an all way stop. This means that traffic on both Cedarcliff and Vanderbilt Roads must come to a complete stop at this intersection.

The Town is changing the traffic pattern at this intersection due to the limited line of sight for vehicles traveling on Cedarcliff Road (from either direction). The Police Department has responded to accidents and many "near-misses" in this location. The Town understands this is a dramatic change in the traffic pattern along Vanderbilt Road. The Town engaged an engineering firm to prepare a detailed schedule for the implementation of this change and provide recommendations on meeting state and federal requirements for notice and signage related to this change.

Significant signage, including electronic message boards, was placed along Vanderbilt Road before the full implementation of this change to alert motorists to the change. Temporary signage was installed on Monday, July 22, 2019 detailing when the change will occur.

On the implementation day (Monday, July 29, 2019) more temporary signage will be installed and the Town's Police Department will maintain a heavy presence in the area to ensure that all drivers are aware of the changed traffic pattern.

The Town previously notified residents via the newsletter in June and subsequent CodeRED notices to residents. The Town also hand delivered written information to residents during the week prior to the all way stop implementation. A copy of this letter and associated FAQ sheet may be found below. On Monday, July 1, 2019, the Town implemented a reduced speed limit in this section of Vanderbilt Road. This reduced speed limit is another segment of the traffic mitigation plan for this section of Vanderbilt Road.

Please feel free to contact the Biltmore Forest Town Hall or Police Department with any questions or concerns.
