Snow Accumulation Expected This Weekend
The National Weather Service is forecasting a winter storm to impact our area beginning Friday and continuing into Saturday.
Current forecasts call for approximately 4 to 6 inches of snowfall, which may lead to slick and hazardous road conditions, especially overnight and during the early morning hours. Residents should plan for difficult travel and allow extra time if travel is necessary.
Town Public Works staff will begin treating roads this afternoon and intend to plow as necessary tomorrow with further re-treatment tomorrow afternoon. To assist the Town, please do not park any vehicles on the roadway and stay off the roads as much as possible.
In addition to the snowfall, very cold temperatures will move in with this storm and persist through the weekend and early next week. Overnight low temperatures are expected to fall into the single digits and teens, with dangerously cold wind chills, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.
This extended period of extreme cold increases the risk of:
- Frozen or burst pipes
- Heating system issues
- Increased energy demand and the potential for power outages
How to prepare your home and family:
- Protect exposed pipes by insulating them and allowing faucets to drip during the coldest periods
- Ensure heating systems are working properly and have alternative heat sources ready (use safely)
- Check on neighbors or those who may need assistance
