Water Discoloration Information

The Town of Biltmore Forest receives its water from the City of Asheville. Recently, the City of Asheville water department experienced a break and repair to a supply line near the North Fork Dam. This resulted in pockets of discolored water in some areas of the water system.

Information from City of Asheville regarding Water Discoloration Issue

The Town of Biltmore Forest Public Works Department monitored our water system through the early days of this break and, initially, found no water discoloration. However, we received a few phone calls Monday, April 1st and several more thus far today, April 2nd. These phone calls have mostly been limited to areas in/around White Oak, Buena Vista, and Hendersonville Roads.

The Town is working with the City of Asheville to ensure water in our system is addressed during Asheville's process for clearing water. The Town may need to flush hydrants throughout the Biltmore Forest water system. If this is deemed necessary, we will alert residents via the CodeRED system and a Nixle text message. As a reminder, you can sign up for CodeRED by clicking the "Sign Up" button at the bottom of the Town's home page.

What to Do If Your Water Is Not Clear

The City of Asheville Water Resources Department has continually tested this water and found it to be safe to drink. The discoloration is an aesthetic issue, and in order to assist in clearing the lines, customers are advised to run cold water for 5-10 minutes or until the water is clear. If your water is still discolored, you may need to postpone washing laundry.

If the water does not clear up after running it for 5-10 minutes, please call the Biltmore Forest Public Works Department at (828) 274-3919. This will assist us in determining what areas of the system are impacted and how we can assist in resolving this issue.
