Trash Container Distribution Update

Effective August 11, 2022, staff from the Town's Public Works Department has begun distributing new trash containers to all residents.  The Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of new uniform trash containers for all residents as part of the FY22 budget. Shipping and logistical delays pushed the arrival of these carts, but we are happy to begin distribution now.

Please do not call the Town Hall or Public Works Department if you have yet to receive your container. Containers are being distributed as quickly as possible, but will not be distributed all within one day.

Important Items to Note

  1. Utilizing uniform containers helps prevent injuries to Town Public Works staff. These containers are able to be rolled into a lift on the rear of each garbage truck - the lift then tips the the can into the truck, thereby eliminating the need for each staff member to lift bags out of a non-uniform can. Your use of these cans is a proactive step in ensuring the health and safety of Town employees. As a result, once a uniform container has been delivered to you, the Town will no longer accept trash placed in a non-uniform container.
  2. All trash should be bagged and placed into the container - loose items should not be left within the can. This helps ensure the materials do not blow around within the truck and helps keep the Town free from litter.
  3. Your new trash container can be left in the same location where it has previously been picked up - staff will still pick up in the same manner as has occurred.
  4. By providing these containers in larger sizes, we are hopeful it will benefit residents who have utilized more than one trash can.
  5. Once all containers are delivered, the Town will retrieve old containers from residents who no longer want them. In order to do this in the most efficient manner, these old containers will not be picked up until after all new containers are distributed. If you would like to request that the Town remove your old containers, please contact the Public Works Department at (828) 274-3919. You will be placed on a list and your old container removed when that process begins.

If you have any questions regarding the 95-gallon container or implementation of this project, please contact the Town Public Works Department. They may be reached at their office by calling (828) 274-3919 or via email at publicworks@biltmoreforest.org

Note for Those Requesting 65-Gallon Container

The Town offered an option for residents to choose from the standard 95-gallon container or a smaller, 65-gallon container. The smaller containers have not yet been delivered to the Town due to shipping and logistical delays. These containers will be distributed as soon as they arrive to those residents who requested a smaller container.
