The South Eastern Classic XXXVI - Car Show
In our continuing observation of the 100th Anniversary of Biltmore Forest, be on the lookout for THE BRITISH – they’re coming & in huge numbers !
The South Eastern Classic XXXVI , an annual regional event hosted by Austin Healey Clubs located in the southeast United States, will be in our town September 20-24, 2023. Expect to see them driving “respectively” from the DoubleTree, through the Forest, to the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit points that only that drive can offer. A highlight of their event will be a HUGE CAR SHOW in the Park on Saturday the 23rd from 9:30 AM till 12:30 PM. With over a hundred Austin Healeys, reputably touted as one of the most beautiful sports cars ever made, as well as our own Biltmore Forest resident “cars of interest” included, it should be quite the sight to see !!
For those that don’t know, the Austin-Healey debuted at the 1952 London Motor Show at Earl’s Court and was greeted with enormous enthusiasm. At this point, the car was known simply as The Healey 100, a sporty two seater that featured a rigid chassis, a well sorted suspension, and a glow of success that came from Donald Healey’s reputation as a rally driver and boutique car builder. Amongst those in attendance at the motor show was Leonard Lord, the head of Austin Motors at the time. Lord liked the car & struck up a deal with Healey to produce what became known as the Austin-Healey. Over the years, the car evolved from a Spartan four cylinder sports roadster to a more luxurious six cylinder touring machine with a tremendous following.
This group of Austin Healey owners possess what may be the best examples of the Marque in the country, so don’t let this opportunity to see them pass you by. They also love to SHARE their good fortune of ownership with everyone – come let them show you their love for the cars !!
