Election Day: Primary Election 2026

Tuesday, March 3, 2026

On March 3, polls are open 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Anyone in line by 7:30 p.m. will have the chance to vote.

Make sure you know your assigned voting location if you are casting a ballot on Election Day.  On Election Day , you MUST go to your assigned voting location. Unsure of your polling place? Call Election Services at (828) 250-4200 or use the voter information tool on their website.

Review your sample ballot and check your registration status using the Voter Search Tool.

You will need a photo ID to vote.

There is no same-day registration on Election Day.

Remember that unaffiliated voters can also vote in primaries, you will just need to select a party ballot at check-in.

What's new?

Voter ID: A new state law means new changes to how you vote. Voters are required to present photo identification when you go to the polls. Please review this information so that your ability to vote will not be affected. Below you will find information from the State Board of Elections on what IDs will be accepted, how to get a photo ID, how to vote without a photo ID, and more.

Accessibility at the Polls

Voters who are unable to go into the polls due to age or disability are welcome to use curbside voting. This is a dedicated parking spot at all locations where voters can be assisted by poll workers at their vehicles.

All sites have machines that can assist people with sight or hearing challenges. These are equipped with large print, contrast, Braille, and audio adaptations for voters who need other accessibility aids. Poll workers also have access to language assistance if that is needed.
