The Town of Biltmore Forest is pleased to announce the selection of T.J. Bates as its new Police Chief. Bates has served as the Assistant Police Chief for the Town of Granite Falls, N.C. for the past 12 years and has served in law enforcement for a total of 21 years. Bates is a graduate of Methodist University with a Master’s degree in Justice Administration and obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Lees-McRae College. The Board of Commissioners will officially appoint Bates at their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 9th.
Bates replaces outgoing Chief J. Eric Tinsley, who has served the Biltmore Forest Police Department for 27 years, rising through the ranks as a patrol officer to sergeant, then lieutenant, and finally, in 2006, becoming the Chief of Police. The Town will hold a retirement reception with refreshments for Chief Tinsley May 23rd, from 5-7pm, at the Town Hall to thank him and celebrate his career in service to the Town.
Bates takes the reins as Police Chief on June 1st, and listed his first priority as getting to know the Department members, residents, and new community. “I am proud to follow in the steps that Chief Tinsley has set forth and hope to continue building upon the relationships the Police Department has with the Biltmore Forest community”, Bates said. He is eager to meet citizens and community members, and wants to continue the outstanding community partnership between the Town and its citizens.
